Film Photography in a Digital Age
Amazing work can be produced using both digital and film cameras. However, many find that images captured on film have a certain quality that is hard to imitate. They are simultaneously dreamy and authentic, framing moments in a way that is reminiscent of the way memories look in our minds’ eye.
At Close to Home Photography, combining that charming, nostalgic aspect of film with modern editing tools is a part of what makes your finished art piece so unique.

What
At Close to Home Photography, I work with you to create artwork that appeals specifically to you. At an in-person consultation, we discuss what type of images you would love to see hanging in your home, or complied in a personalized photobook. It’s all about what speaks to you.
Who
Hi, my name is Jazmyn Johnson and I am a personalized landscape and lifestyle photographer from Los Angeles, California. As a nature-loving city girl, many of my images highlight the beautiful designs that are found in both the natural world and the architecture I see everyday. When photographing people, I prefer to keep things as natural as possible and capture special moments in a documentary style.
Why
In one word — memories! A dear family friend of mine has seen Los Angeles undergo countless changes during the 81 years he has lived here. From time to time he feels homesick for the streets he knew as a child, so we decided to literally take a walk down memory lane. We spent an afternoon across town, searching for the homes he and his relatives lived in over 60 years ago. We were heartbroken to find that they had all been replaced (two homes became part of school yards, and one an industrial lot). So much had changed. “I wish we had thought to take a picture before we moved,” he said. The only remnants of his memories that still existed were the trees he and his siblings used to climb. Thankfully, the smell of those trees was enough to satisfy his taste for the world he once knew.
The fact is, nothing in this world lasts forever — including the places that are home to some of our most cherished memories. That’s why I feel it’s so important to document not only the people, but also the places that have meaning to you personally.
